Winstars USB Video Grabber A07JR and Windows 7 64 bit.

Postby barrymung » Wed Apr 27, 2011 9:42 am

Although the instructions with this item say it is only compatable with Windows Vista and before, there are 64 bit drivers on the supplied CD that DO work with Windows 7 64 bit.
I spent all afternoon yesterday digitizing old Video-8 tapes and uploading them to You-Tube as a result.

Have yet to try it on Windows 7 32 bit, but don't think there will not be any problem as 64 bit support seems to run into more than enough problems with drivers etc.

The only bug really is in the capture software as it doesn't seem to have a 'Mono' selection for the audio input.

'DVD quality' is the best encoding quality from the software, but it will not work with Windows Movie maker or similar programs (Virtual Dub is also a no no). Lucky for me I have Premiere so compatability is not an issue. Will try the 'AVI' setting and report back here for the results soon...

Hi BarryMung,

welcome to the forum! looking forward to hearing how you have found the different quality settings etc.

I'll also see if i can get the web team to update the product page as well regarding the Windows versions supported.

Hi, we recently bought a Winstars USB video grabber but we can't get it to display on our computers. The program installed properly, we get a console icon and a square screen, but no VHS displayed in the square screen. We have tried installing it on a laptop with XP and a laptop with Windows 7 but no luck on either. The graphics cards seem to be compatible, so that is unlikely to be the issue. Any ideas? Or its going back to the shop............And yes, we have plugged in the grabber to both the video player and the computer, and pressed play with a video in it.

Thanks in advance. :(

Hi JLP3 welcome to the forums

First easy question to get out of the way is what type of video is in the player right now? For example is it a home video or a pre recorded "shop bought" style video tape?

Hi, thanks for responding so quickly.

We have tried both t.v recorded video and shop bought pre-recorded video.

hmmm thats usually the first cause of a "blank" or "distorted" screen on units like this...I'll have a chat with the technical guys here and try to see if there is anything else that can be suggested.

Ok, we downloaded the new driver but it has made no difference. We still get a black screen, and I forgot to say before, that it still shows low level interference, but nothing that amounts to anything like a picture or any sound either. We have tried all the different PAL options, and all of the other ones too, and using both the composite and S-video options as well.

Any ideas?

Are you using a scart to phono adaptor? If you are then it's probably an "in" type rather than the "out" type you require.

Hi
We have tried using both a scart to phono (out the back of the video player) and just the yellow, white an red video/phono that come out of the front of our video player......

the phono connections at the front of the vcr wont work as they would be wired as inputs only, i think what MrV2K is trying to say it could be the adaptor that you are using
http://www.maplin.co.uk/scart-to-phono-in-adaptor-11961
this one wouldn't work because its wired up as an input however
http://www.maplin.co.uk/scart-to-phono-out-adaptor-26540
this should work without any problems
or what, your going to hit me with that fish

Hi all,

I'd be grateful if anyone can help with a problem with this same piece of kit.

Currently, when I start EZ Grabber, all I see is a black screen in the video window.

I know that I have a working video signal going into the device, because I've tested it by connecting the video through the red, white and yellow cable to the TV.

I have installed the latest drivers given in the link. I am running 64-bit Windows 7. The device is plugged directly into the laptop, and I've tested it with all other USB devices removed.

I am not sure, however, that the device is listed in Device Manager. It certainly doesn't appear in the way shown in the manual.

Can anyone advise? Can anyone who has it working post a picture of how their Device Manager looks, so I can see if the device has been detected properly?

Any help much appreciated.

Phil
